Hublot has enjoyed a long relationship with football. In 2008, the brand signed its first footie-related sponsorship deal: with Manchester United, for a reported £4m per year. The Hublot Big Bang 'Red Devil Bang' Manchester United – 318.CM.1190.RX.MAN08 , released in a limited edition of 500 pieces, commemorated the Man U sponsorship deal. It's powered by the HUB 1146 calibre, which has been seen beating inside other football-related Hublots (it's in the Big Bang Maradona and the Big Bang Flamengo). The 'ears' on the crown and opposite side of the bezel are made from a red composite resin. The Manchester United badge, the famous dancing red devil for which the club, and the watch, are named, is appliquéd on the other subdial (seconds). The power reserve is 42 hours. The hands are applied with yellow lume.
The Hublot Big Bang 'Red Devil' Manchester United was available in both ceramic and gold cases. This article is focused on ref. 318.CM.1190.RX.MAN08, which is in ceramic with a black rubber bracelet. The folding steel clasp is Hublot-branded, and matches the colour of the ceramic bezel. Hublot's characteristic 'H screws', highly polished, add a nice alternation with the matte, grainy finish of the ceramic, and the red (lumed) hour markers echo the crown mounting and the Red Devil badge on the dial.
The full Manchester United badge is reproduced on the caseback, which is solid, obscuring any view of the movement. But you do get the satisfaction of seeing the legend 'HUBLOT BIG BANG LIMITED EDITION', and the exact number of your model.
An interesting sidenote: in 2014, Tom Cleverley part exchanged his custom-engraved Big Bang Manchester United model at a pawnbroker in Blackpool. Cleverley's luxury watch was one of a series given to the Manchester United squad of 2011, and featured the player's name and shirt number engraved on the back. It seems he cashed it in when Man U loaned him out to Aston Villa.
